کتاب الکترونیکی "Ladle Refining and Vacuum Degassing"

The treatment of steel in the ladle started approximately 45 years ago when the first ladle-to-ladle

and ladle-to-ingot mold vacuum degassing processes for hydrogen removal appeared on the

scene. In the late 1950s more efficient vacuum degassers such as the Dortmund Hoerder (DH)

and Ruhrstahl-Heraeus (RH) processes became popular. In the middle 1960s degassing processes

such as vacuum arc degassing (VAD), the ASEA-SKF process, and the vacuum oxygen decarburization

(VOD) process for treating high-chromium steels were successfully implemented.

The oxygen steelmaking process rapidly refines a charge of molten pig iron and ambient scrap into steel of a desired carbon and temperature using high purity oxygen. Steel is made in discrete batches called heats.

The furnace or converter is a barrel shaped, open topped, refractory lined vessel that can rotate on horizontal trunnionaxis. The basic operational steps of the process (BOF) are shown schematically in Fig.

heating steel before further processing, and in the flues or stacks through which hot gases are conducted.At the risk of oversimplification, they may, therefore, be said to be materials of construction that are able to withstand temperatures from 260–1850°C (500–3400°F).

There have been tremendous improvements in iron and steelmaking processes in the past twenty yProductivity and coke rates in the blast furnace and the ability to refine steel to demanding speciftions have been improved significantly. Much of this improvement is based on the application of fundamental principles and thermodynamic and kinetic parameters which have been determined.
Whereas, many future improvements will be forthcoming in steelmaking equipment, process improments resulting from the application of fundamental principles and data will likewise continue.
